RWBY - Canon Enforcer Adam by Lightning-in-my-Hand RWBY - Canon Enforcer Adam by Lightning-in-my-Hand
Adam is probably a living embodiment of some of the FNDM's Vitriol toward OC's. He's the kind of person that bombards an artist with hate when that artist's OCs don't comply with the Color Naming Rule or the One Faunus Trait rule.

Partially, I blame the directors for not revealing this earlier, and in my anger, I brutally mutilated my own lead OC to force him to comply to the law of the RWBYverse.

I truly hate the FNDM

Anyway, the three people down in the last panel are "wrong" Faunus OCs I made myself. I would have used existing OCs but I didn't want to call out anyone else. So I made them up and designed their outfits and made their names to be like some of the more generic OCs you usually find in the daviantART FNDM. If they resemble any character you have that I don't know of, I'm sorry.

Grey Wolf Faunus: Rossa Stark
Lion Faunus: Lowen Dorado
Buffalo Faunus: Asula Minos

Honestly, I wrote an OC with more than one animal trait before we found out about this, and I don't feel like going back to change it now. People can just live with me considering everything after Volume Two "soft canon". Especially bizarre nonsense genetics like Faunus bloodlines. I had a friend in agriculture spitball some ideas at me for how that could possibly work, and we came up with some ridiculous things between the two of us. All realistic, all ridiculously complex. Then again, if anyone here has ever studied biology, they know exactly how complex it can get.

One idea you could do is like how some people are born with rare deformities, something like that happens where a Faunus is born with more than 1 trait due to a hereditary genetic glitch or something. Much like when someone is born with a blue eye in one eye, but the other is a different color.

No... I'm not a fan of "special snowflake" characters. If it's a fantasy with a "chosen one", like Harry Potter, sure, but Harry isn't special except in that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named chose him, you know? He's an average kid, exceptionally brave, but mostly normal except for where You-Know-Who is concerned.

My point is, bringing up that this character is very unique and unusual is something that should be unusual. Unless it's something that's necessary for the main character to be the main character - as in the example - or a direct result of the character's status as the main character - unlikely -  I don't see a reason to make a character unique. Can you imagine, for example, if Luke Skywalker hadn't just been the only Force Sensitive in decades, he'd been the most powerful one anyone had ever seen? And took to his powers like a duck to water because of some special affinity for the Force? And, on top of that, had a "chosen one" arc wherein the weapon/companion/ship of a great hero was handed down to him? Or, worse, was shown to be so competent he defeated the main villain of the story within the first arc of his trilogy? He'd be too good to be true.

Besides, this particular character is a side character in her story, who won't matter too much in the long run. If all I'm going to do with the story is anger the "Canon Enforcer Adam"s of the world, I'm not too concerned. Then again, being a side character opens up the possibility you suggest by diluting the "specialness".

Heh, the thing is it looks like they gave Neon two cat traits (her tail and a cat mouth/lips), so who knows what's canon now.

Could make a argument that sometimes some Faunus can be born with a extra chromosome at some rare times - which in turn causes them to develop another animal part like these guys have with their tails and ears... But I'm not sure how well that idea would hold up. But either way this was funny as hell XD

lol having an extra chromosome is never good. Many times this just leads to mental disorders or some other messy shit. Trisomy 13- Patau Syndrome. Trisomy 18- Edward's Syndrome Trisomy 21- Down's Syndrome. Other mutations could lead to the formation of extra appendages, i suppose-- gene suppression and whatnot

Genetic Mutations could be a good explanation. Ones that are stable enough just to cause a extra Faunus part to grow in them. Where in extremely rare occurrences the Faunus child could end up developing two animal traits due to having a hereditary defect in their genes, much like how some humans in our world develop deviations in their bodies.

It's not technically post Vol.2. It's more post January 2016. That's when they established the single trait rule. I made my OCs 6 months prior to that.

That doesn't seem right, I knew the rule since longer than that, they mentioned it in a Q&A podcast.

Personally I found the one faunus trait rule to be quite obvious even before it was announced since quite literally not a single faunus was seen with more than one animal trait and this is coming from somebody who doesn't pay attention to thing. As for the color naming rule that threw me off since there are some characters who's name's don't look like they mean any form of color but when you actually look them up it turns out that they do.

Well, I'm a fucking idiot, apparently. I needed Monty to release an entire chart of the Color Naming Rule for me to realize that all the characters have color names.

I once had the idea for a fanfic where team RWBY ended up under the ocean and discovered a whole kingdom of Sea-Faunus. Said Faunus would've also had different colored skin depending on what kind of Faunus they were (cuz thier fish people), but if the FNDM really is that bad then fuck it.

There's really reason as to why a Faunus can't have more than one animal trait other than "'cause we said so." Not to mention actually has two: her cat ears and her cat eyes.

It's a bit dumb to lash out on someone just because you dont agree with their OC >.> People are idiots
Like, fair enough nicely telling them the rule if they don't know it (when a friend got into RWBY I told her the rules just cause a casual fan wouldn't go searching really), but it's another thing to be rude about it.
Which is what most people do ugh

FNDM needs to chill. High blood pressures on that lot. I have dual Faunus traits on nearly all my Faunus OCs.

Well, it would still be nice, if you all would just follow the rules of this series and save yourselfs from unnecessary trouble. There's a very helpful wiki afterall. I'm mean, it's just a bit of a shame if people create an OC and put so much effort into it, in some cases, and then it gets kind of ruined by this little detail. It's still an important detail though, because it shows on first glance how much an artist actually cares or how lazy they are. This might be one reason, why some fanfics aren't as popular as they want to be.

The creators of RWBY were even so kind to give some advice to us fans, so that we create our characters properly. I can't think of any other series where the creators do that. Unless you're creating an AU, when you're aware of the rules and still decide not to follow them, without good reasons, it's quite frankly just disrespectful to the original creators, who did their research. And you will be called out on it. That's no hating.
By the way, if you just draw one trait, you have one detail less to worry about and you could focus on something else. Isn't that a win-win?

It's really worth the time to do some research first. It doesn't take that long.

At the end, it's still you're choice of course. Just don't be surprised if some may point it out, I'm just saying...

Dammit, you're right. I guess recoloring Blake's hair gray makes it look sorta look like her.

And if you look closely, you can see that the Lion Faunus was inspired by Sun.

I'm lucky no one in RWBY has the same hairstyle as the Lin-Manuel "Hamilton" hairstyle or Asula would get called out too.
